“I feel that having a doula by my side kept me focused. She was very reassuring through the contractions, plus the benefits of creating a new friendship. She gave me the insight to alternatives that conventional medicine would not have provided. I feel that the personal interaction with a doula should be every expectant mother experience, as I rate it far above the conventional experience.” Christina - Keira’s momma

    Embracing Natural Childbirth
    Tuesday Evenings for 5 Weeks

    Starts:
    Tuesday, March 30, 2010
    Time:  7-9:00 p.m.
Where: Spencer Chiropractic ~ West Lafayette, Indiana

This class spends a good deal of time learning about and discussing the onset and natural progression of labor and trying out various relaxation, pain and stress management techniques. These are useful for labor and birth for moms who pursue un-medicated birth, but also for moms who choose an epidural in advance or during the course of labor. My hope is that students can use these practices later on in parenting and life during any "hard work" time.

    Session topics include:

    1. Places to give birth and the Midwifery Model of Car, Safety, Settings for Birth, Your Priorities, Birth Plans, Relaxation Practice.

    2. The Mother’s Amazing Body, Nutrition!, Exercise, Comforts, Perineal Massage, Relaxation Practice.

    3. Labor & Delivery Part 1, “Normal” Labor Progression, Movement and Positions, Labor Support, Transition, Helper Hormones, Affirmations, Relaxation Practice.

    4. Labor & Delivery Part 2, Complications, Interventions, Unexpecteds and Options, Flexibility (Open Minds and Improvisation), Relaxation Practice.

    5. Early Postpartum Period, Newborn Care, Breastfeeding,
Perinatal Mood Disorder, Mama Support, The New Normal, Relaxation Practice
    .

We also watch and discuss several outstanding birth videos during the course of the class. The class fee of $90 covers a materials binder and use of a lending library and is payable by check or money order during one of the first class sessions.
